April showers, meetings flower?
This seems like a good item to blog about on a rainy, yucky Massachusetts spring morning:
According to this Reuters article, the meetings biz is coming into bloom this spring. Among the quotes in the article:
"We clearly have launched into a wonderful recovery trend here in '04 after hitting as bad as it could be last year," said George Aguel, senior vice president for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in Florida. "There is a tremendous level of activity that should set the stage for an even stronger 2005."
2004 is "clearly going to be better than '03 or '02," according to Jack Horne, vice president for sales. In addition to higher meetings transaction in the first quarter and increased bookings, "The other encouraging sign is that we take measurement of the tentative pipeline -- how many tentative meetings are being looked at but not formed yet -- and that number is well up," he added.
Bill Peeper, executive director of Florida's Orlando Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau, said: "We believe we've turned the corner and are on a very significant upswing."
