New diversity push
The American Hotel & Lodging Association just launched an initiative it hopes will "help create a more diverse workforce wherein it will promote and recruit qualified workers who represent a broad spectrum of racial and special groups," according to a press release. The new Multicultural Advisory Council, which met for the first time this week and is headed up by Wyndham International Chairma/CEO Fred Kleisner, will "serve as a clearinghouse and developer of industry initiatives."
It’s not entirely clear from the press release exactly what they’re aiming to do, but I hope it includes fast-tracking minorities to higher level positions in the hospitality industry. One good sign is that "the group will strive to strengthen AH&LA’s existing strategic partnerships with minority groups such as the Lodging Industry Diversity Officers, MultiCultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce."
